Between Winter Winds

With autumn well and truly settled in, young fashionistas need to start making wardrobe preparations for the oncoming cooler months. Staple pieces are the key and will see you through on coming seasons and will save you the time and money where it counts, getting these pieces together now will make summer/spring a breeze.

This season we will see the return of the princess dress. A typical Fit and flare waisted dress that will make the transition from autumn too winter in 2011 and easy one. With supple pleats, tulip hiplines and simple round or boat necklines this look is for both day wear and party attire depending on fabrication. Team it with a pair of knee high socks and cute booties for a an elegant modern day “Audrey Hepburn” look and a pair of cat eye sunglasses which is this seasons key accessory and your key to perfecting an outfit.

Keep your eyes peeled for an evolving trend much like the flowered headband revolution, the detachable collars much the same as the ones we saw in Miu Miu’s Spring 2010 collection will be hitting our streets with attitude to boot, an easy way to differ an outfit, but also an alternative to a necklace or long heavy earrings.

Layering of clothing is essential, but for the meantime while it’s not arctic temperatures keep them light and flowy. A suitable option, the coveted sheer maxi skirt and perfect for over the top of tights, short skirts or if you have the pins to show off, a pair of high waisted shorties. Team with a soft cropped knit, short bustier or sweet sheer tie front top.

We saw Anna Del Russo rock out in several Prada and Jill Sanders ensembles at London Fashion week this year, channelling key look colouring blocking which is a simple and easy trend that all fans can follow. Try teaming a classic camel colour with neon pink or orange, these colours make perfect companions with one another and will make you the most talked about in the room at your next rendezvous.

Cooler than a cardigan, get your hands on a cape! As our fantasies and dream states become ever more real, we challenge these unknowns through graphics and print (WGSN 2011). Digital prints have been around for more than one season now, but are here to stay. With the introduction of galaxy and starry night prints, seek for something dark and mystical that will leave you looking much like a superhero from another planet.
